Birth date estimated.Christening details obtained from parish records transcripts held at East Sussex Records Office, Lewes. The 1911 census shows James to have been married for 10 years to Jessie Catherine Bailey, who was herself from East Grinstead. I believe her maiden name to have been Burgess, her birth being registered in East Grinsted Q3 1875. I believe the marriage was registered in the Croydon district Q4 1900. I can find no record for James for the 1901 census as yet. James's older sister Ellen married Jessie's brother John Charles Burgess in the Hailsham area in 1901. Found James and his wife Jessie, aged 55, in the 1930 US census in Charlotte Street, Pontiac City, Oakland, Michigan, having emigrated there in 1914. Then found their US 1920 census.
