Birth date estimated.Christening details obtained from parish records transcripts held at East Sussex Records Office, Lewes. Philadelphia married George Staples in Hailsham in the same year/quarter as her brother Frank married Eunice, and both couples lived in Stedham in the 1891 census. George was from Leicester, Cossington. It is believed he died Q1 1928 aged 63, registered in Hailsham, volume 2b, page 148. Kathleen's mother Caroline, Philadelphia's sister, kept a photograph of a George Staples in her photograph album - Kathleen's brother Fred told us George Staples was a friend of his mother's.Philadelphia's father Arthur's death certificate shows that he died at the home of his daughter Philadelphia Staples in March 1909. The address was Street End Lane, Heathfield, but on looking at a map, this was just around the corner from Little Bainden in Mayfield. The original photos were taken at a photography studio in Croydon. On the back of Georges photo it said 'In loving memory of George Staples who died March 28th 1928 aged 63 years. Thy will be done.'
