Notes:

Ernest was a baker roundsman at the time of Mike's birth, and he and Kathleen lived in Well Street, East Malling, Kent. They lived at Staggs Farm, which was owned by Wilfrid Hill Stagg, fruit grower, and the farm was officially called Spring Head. Spring Head farmhouse is now 263 Well Street. 25/6/2011 viewed records at Maidstone Records Office as paperwork on the history of Colesdane mentions nothing about it being used as a maternity hospital. The records viewed were CC/C-A/9/4/6, Colesdane as an emergency maternity home. There was a big file full of letter between Lawrence Abel, the owner of the property, and the Health Authority, and the military, where they were squabbling over who was going to pay what percentages of the year's water rates etc, and as to the state of the curtains when the Health Authority had finished with the building, before handing it over to the military%21 There was also a full survey of the property from when the building was first requisitioned by the Health Authority on 1st September 1939. It was closed as a maternity unit and handed over to the military on 5th September 1940.
