William and his siblings Maria and Peter are legatees in the will of their grandfather John Avis, 1728 to 1806, and it was through that that I found the existence of their father Peter. I will check for further details at the Lewes Records Office. I believe that their mother was Fanny, and that she was buried 29/3/1793 in Withyham, and that they had the following children, who in the will are referred to as the children of Peter Avis deceased, late son of John Avis. Maria, baptised in Withyham 15/9/1788 (received 300 pounds in her grandfather John Avis will of 1806). Peter, baptised in Withyham 6/5/1790 (received 300 pounds in his grandfather John Avis will of 1806). William, baptised in Horsted Keynes 23/8/1794 (received 300 pounds in his grandfather John Avis will of 1806). Their father Peter is believed to have remarried to Elizabeth Weller in Withyham 4/2/1796, and his 1803 will leaves everything to her.
