Peters children are legatees in the will of John Avis, 1728 to 1806, and it was through that that I found his existence. I will check for further details at the Lewes Records Office. I believe that he married Fanny, and that she was buried 29/3/1793 in Withyham, and that they had the following children, who in the will are referred to as the children of Peter Avis deceased, late son of John Avis. Maria, baptised in Withyham 15/9/1788 (received 300 pounds in her grandfather John Avis will of 1806). Peter, baptised in Withyham 6/5/1790 (received 300 pounds in his grandfather John Avis will of 1806). William, baptised in Horsted Keynes 23/8/1794 (received 300 pounds in his grandfather John Avis will of 1806). Peter Avis is believed to have remarried to Elizabeth Weller in Withyham 4/2/1796. His will dated 5/5/1803 at National Archives Chichester leaves everything to her. The 1798 land tax records show Peter to be a tenant of Hunts farm, the owner being the Duke of Dorset, with tax due of 6 pounds and 6 shillings. 16/4/2013 visit to Lewes records office confirmed burial details in Withyham register - 15/11/1802 - Peter Avis, farmer. I also confirmed his wife Fannys burial date in Withyham - 29/3/1793 - Fanny Avis, wife of Peter. I also confirmed his remarriage - 4/2/1796 - Peter Avis, widower, married Elizabeth Weller by licence.
