Notes:

Details of christening taken from mormons genealogy website of England births and christenings. I have bought a copy of a book, Historical Notes of Withyham, Hartfield and Ashdown Forest, by Charles Nassau Sutton, rector of Withyham, published originally in 1902. William is down as being a tenant of Hendall in 1743 (his father Robert had previously been a tenant there). In 1775, William Avis junior is down as the tenant - I believe he is probably this William's son. In 1798, the land tax assessment shows William Avis being a tenant of the Duke of Dorset at Hendall, with tax due of 8 pounds and 8 shillings. It also shows William Avis being the owner of Little Alksford in Withyham with a tenant called Henry Hills, with tax due of 12 shillings.
