Notes:

31/5/2012 visit to Lewes Records Office viewed his christening details - he was the son of Robert and Michal Aves and his father was a labourer. Was his marriage to Sarah(Turner?) 30/1/1727 in Chiddingstone, Kent? (theweald.org). 31/5/2012 visit to Lewes Records Office viewed Withyham burial register - 1/7/1772 John Avis was buried, from Ham, aged 71. I have bought a copy of a book, Historical Notes of Withyham, Hartfield and Ashdown Forest, by Charles Nassau Sutton, rector of Withyham, published originally in 1902. John is referred to as being a churchwarden of Withyham, in 1731, as his father had been. From 1728 to 1773 when he died he was a tenant of Ham, as his father had been before him. He was one of the signees of a workhouse agreement on 1/5/1738 with Robert Mills, as was his father.
