Notes:
For family tree for William Avis going back to 1610 search on www.theweald.org and enter his name. This information was given to that website by Yvonne Brautigam, who is the great-granddaughter of George Avis, via his daughter Elizabeth Grace, who married Tom Dunstall, and her daughter Audrey. She does have us descended from William Avis born 1750, but agrees with me that we are actually descended from his brother Thomas Avis born 1747. William is showing as a labourer on a railway on his son George's birth certificate, and as a labourer on his son Georges marriage to Caroline Bailey. His marriage details obtained from parish records transcripts held at East Sussex Records Office, Lewes. His marriage certificate shows that his father Peter Avis was a labourer. His death certificate shows that his son George was in attendance at the death.Myrtle Cottages are believed to have been over the railway line in Groombridge towards Eridge about 150 yards on the right, before Birchden Cottage(advised of this by Molly and Gerry Robson of Groombridge, although cottages now believed to be renamed).1-6-2011 - Isfield parish baptism register viewed at Lewes Records Office - verified christening date - surname down as Avice. This showed his father Peter as a gamekeeper. 21/11/2011 Eridge Green churchwarden confirmed William was buried there 13/4/1909. The photo of William is taken from the old family album, and mum's brother Fred also had a copy of this photo in a frame with a photo of his mother, Harriet, as verified by Freds daughter Marion.
